Fernley High School swimmers Auburn Mortensen and Lauren Adamson qualified for this Saturday’s 3A State Swimming and Diving Championships in Carson City.
Adamson qualified for the state Meet in the girls 100 yard backstroke by finishing second with a time of 1:11.01 in last week’s regional meet held at the Carson Aquatic Facility, where the State Meet will also be held.
Mortensen qualified in the girls 200 yard freestyle by placing third with a time of 2:38.58.
The top three finishers in each event advanced to the State Meet.
Fernley’s other best finishers at the regional meet were four fifth place showings.
Adamson was fifth in the girls 50 yard freestyle with a time of 27.40. Mortensen was fifth in the girls 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:29.68.
The girls 200 yard medley relay team of Lauren Adamson, Auburn Mortenson, Kaylee Pitcher and Raye Arroyo came in fifth with a time of 2:19.09, and the team of Mortensen, Pitcher, Natalia Kober and Adamson was fifth in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 2:06.34.
Other Fernley swimmers who made the finals were Pitcher, who finished seventh in the girls 100 freestyle in 1:10.27, and Christian Maldonado, who placed eighth in the boys 100 freestyle with a time of 58.75.
Competition at the State Meet begins Saturday at noon at the Carson Aquatic Facility.
