Track: Vaquero teams win Lyon County Championships

The Fernley High School boys and girls track teams both won the Lyon County Championships, held last Thursday in Fernley.

The boys team won by lapping the rest of the field. Fernley had 158 team points, doubling second place Yerington, which scored 79. Dayton was third with 54 points, Silver stage was fourth with 32 and Smith Valley was fifth with 21.

The Fernley girls won with 153 team points, with Dayton second with 92 points, Yerington third with 53, Smith Valley fourth with 29 points and Silver Stage fifth with 2.

Jadan Rotton led the way for the Fernley boys, winning all three sprints. He recorded a time of 11.84 in the 100 meters, 23.96 in the 200 and 54.58 in the 400.

Other individual champions for the Fernley boys were Jonathan Roach in the 1600, with a time of 5:01.27; Eric Rosales in the 3200 in 11:04.09 and Sam Wright in the 300 hurdles with a personal record time of 42.23;

Fernley also won the 4×100 relay, with Cooper Henderson, Nathan Henderson, Teron Unger and Jaden Wilson running in 46.39.

The Fernley girls won all three prints and all three distance races.

Riana Allred won the 100 in 14.11; Celeste Condie won the 200 in 29.51 and Samantha Manning won the 400 in 1:04.51.

In distance races, Piper Crook won the 800 in 2:33.18; Grace DeLeon won the 1600 in 5:57.46 and Janae Derley won the 32oo in 1:12.40.

Allred also won the 100 hurdles in 17.64.

Fernley won two relays, with Taylor Richardson, Manning, Condie and Crook winning the 4×400 in 4:27.21 and Derley, Jaiden Sullivan, Olivia Schrock and Mallori Campbell taking the 4×800 relay in 11:11.00.

This week the Vaqueros are scheduled to compete in the Carson Invitational, with JV events on Friday and varsity on Saturday.
