Stephen Lee Charter

September 02, 1954 to February 18, 2018

… Stephen Lee Charter passed away peacefully, at Renown Hospital, February 18, 2018, surrounded by family. “Charter” was taken from this life too soon, by an aggressive, rapidly metastasizing and extremely painful variant of lung cancer.

… Born in Fallon, NV, September 02, 1954, the eldest of three children born to Ernest Darrel and Hazel May (Heath) Charter. He was predeceased by his father and brother, Mark. He is survived by his mother, daughters: Jennifer Clark (John), Heather Charter, Melissa Charter; sister, Kathy Lancaster (Keith); eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and a large extended family.

Upon graduation from Churchill County High School in 1972 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After recruit and technical training he was stationed in Hanau, Germany as a Personnel Specialist. He received an Honorable Discharge and Army Commendation Medal in 1976. Returning home he attended Truckee Meadows Community College receiving Associates Degrees in: General Studies and Substance Abuse Counseling.

… He wore many hats, in sales and management, before entering his profession as Clinical Director, Assistant to Administrator, then Clinical Supervisor, The Reno Salvation Army, Reno, NV; with a parallel career as a Drug Court Counselor and in private practice at Charter Recovery in Reno, NV.

… As a devout Christian he served and established recovery based programs in several local churches. He lived his life’s motto, “The only things that matter in life is love and the number of people’s lives that you touch”. He loved people and cherished every relationship. He always saw the good in others when they did not see it themselves.

… He was never idle, … ever, … always learning, traveling, fishing, hunting, camping, riding his Harley, working on old cars and trucks, shopping, cooking and spending time with his family and friends. Above all, he was a devoted family man who loved his daughters very much; they were his life. He was the busiest man who always had time for anyone.

… A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Mountain View Mortuary, 425 Stoker Avenue, Reno, NV, with full military honors. Friends and relatives are invited to attend.
