A suspect in an abduction in Sparks was arrested by Lyon County sheriff’s deputies following a vehicle pursuit that began in Fernley.
At approximately 7:56 p.m. Wednesday, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Sparks Police Department of a possible abduction in their jurisdiction involving a vehicle registered to an address in Fernley. While deputies were en route to check out the address, calls came into the Lyon County Dispatch Center of a vehicle crash on Interstate 80 near Exit 46 involving the suspect vehicle and another vehicle.
The responding deputy arrived at the crash site to find the victim of the possible abduction also at the scene. In the meantime, another deputy located the suspect vehicle on Main Street in Fernley. The vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued onto westbound I-80 and then eastbound on I-80 toward the original crash site.
LCSO spokesman Michael Carlson said the pursuing deputy, fearing for the safety of the individuals at the crash site, rammed the suspect vehicle to end the pursuit. There were no injuries from either crash and the suspect is now in custody.
The identity of the suspect has not yet been released.
