Silver Springs fugitive arrested in Lovelock

A fugitive from Silver Springs who failed to appear for his arraignment on a murder charge was arrested Saturday in Lovelock.

According to Lyon County Sheriff Al McNeil, Santiago “Sonny” Fernandez, 45, was arrested without incident.

Fernandez was wanted on an arrest warrant out of the Third Judicial District Court after he failed to appear for his arraignment on July 17 in the shooting death of Robert Buchanan in Silver Springs. Fernandez had been out of custody on a $500,000 bond.

The Lyon County Dispatch Center received an anonymous tip at 7:57 a.m. Saturday that Fernandez was at a gas station in Lovelock. The Pershing County Dispatch Center was immediately notified and an arrest was made by Lovelock Police as Fernandez departed the gas station.

“I want to give a special thanks to the Lovelock Police Department and the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office for their quick response and roles in the apprehension of this fugitive from justice. It was a job well done,” McNeil said.
