The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating report of a discharge of a firearm in Silver Springs that involved a Lyon County Commissioner.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Dec. 14 to a reported discharge of a firearm on Spruce Avenue in Silver Springs. The incident, which included the death of a dog, involved a Lyon County Commissioner.
This incident is being thoroughly and properly investigated by the Sheriff’s Office, to include the
collection of evidence and compiling witness statements. Two out-of-county forensic tests will be
requested, and can take several months before we receive the finalized laboratory reports.
The completed case report will then be forwarded to the Lyon County District Attorney’s Office, who
will probably conflict the case out to another prosecuting agency for case review and determination.
The District Attorney’s Office routinely requests other jurisdictions to prosecute cases in which it would have a conflict of interest, such a when a defendant is a county official or employee.
