Pence, Cruz cancel appearances at Basque Fry

With Hurricane Harvey making landfall in Texas and President Trump declaring a major disaster, Vice President Mike Pence and Sen. Ted Cruz have canceled their scheduled appearance at the 3rd Annual Basque Fry Saturday at the Corley Ranch in Gardnerville.

“Together, the Vice President and Senator Cruz have decided it would be most appropriate to cancel their trip to Nevada and focus their time and attention on the people affected by this storm,” Attorney General Adam P. Laxalt said. “While I am grateful that that these two great leaders had planned to visit us tomorrow at the Basque Fry, they are each making the correct and best decision and I fully support them both. My family joins all Nevadans in continuing to keep all those affected by Harvey in our prayers.”

Congressman Kevin McCarthy, Majority Leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, has been added to the speaker lineup.

“Congressman McCarthy, who represents California’s 23rd District in the Bakersfield area, has established himself as a principled leader and champion for conservative principles, and we are honored to have him be a part of this event, said Andy Matthews, Executive Director, Morning in Nevada PAC.

American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and Congressman Mark Amodei are among the other scheduled speakers.

The Basque Fry is hosted by Morning in Nevada PAC, which was created in 2015 by friends of Nevada Attorney General Adam Paul Laxalt to help fund conservative causes, candidates and organizations.
