Man arrested after multiple vehicle burglaries and foot chase

A Reno man who told deputies he was moving to Fernley was arrested Sunday following a foot chase after he was identified as the suspect in several vehicle burglaries.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. Sunday, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office received s several reports of vehicle burglaries in the 1800 block of Fort Sutter Blvd and 1600 block of Round Up Road. Deputies responded to the area and started several investigations into the burglaries. They received video of the suspect from several witnesses, and on a neighborhood Ring application, deputies observed a video of a man wearing a red hat, black hooded sweatshirt, and white pants entering several vehicles in the neighborhood. A witness stated they observed the same person enter a black SUV and drive away.

Deputies obtained a license plate and the address of where the vehicle was possibly located. Deputies then responded to the 1600 block of Round Up Road and located the vehicle parked in front of a home. While at that home, deputies found several items reported missing from the burglaries. Deputies contacted Ashton Spohn, who was still wearing the same clothing that deputies observed on the video during the burglaries.

When deputies attempted to take Spohn into custody, they said he pulled away from the first deputy, pushed through a second deputy, and ran out the door, and a foot pursuit ensued. After setting up a perimeter, he was found hiding in a storage shed in a playground at a daycare center in the 1000 block of Inglewood Dr. and taken into custody.
