LCSO warns of phone scam

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a phone scam underway in Lyon County.

The scammers pose as deputies of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, telling the victims they either have missed a court date or have an outstanding warrant, and then demand payment to clear the violation.

The victims who do not answer their phone receive a call back number that provides instruction on how to automatically make a payment,

The scammers have been identifying themselves as either Sergeant Tommy Smith or Captain Dan Brown.

If you receive one of these calls or have suffered a loss as a result of this scam, call the LCSO non-emergency line at (775) 463-6620 and to see about filing a report.
