The Fernley High School girls basketball suffered its first loss of the season Friday afternoon, 46-25 to Heritage (Littleton, Colo.).

Brittney Gaitan led the Vaqueros with 10 points.

“We struggled executing and defensively we missed a lot of assignments,” coach John Rogers said. “We are struggling to hit our shots but that will come.”

Rogers said all of the struggles the Vaqueros have had are correctable.

“Heritage is a good team and they exposed us a little,” he said. “We can learn from this and make strides going forward.”

The Vaqueros are now 1-1 on the season, and face Atwater (Ca.) at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
