The Fernley Republican Women announced it has awarded two $500 scholarships to Laney Miller and Karli Burns, both students at Fernley High School.
Miller will be attending Truckee Meadows Community College starting in August to earn an Associates of Science degree, then transferring to a university to complete a Bachelor of Science degree. She would like to work in the field of Forensic Science and possibly become a Forensic Investigator.
Burns will be attending Boise State University in Idaho to earn a degree in Psychology and then pursuing a Master’s Degree in Behavior Analysis, using it to build relationships with local native communities, incorporate spirituality and culture in counseling, and reduce the obstacles Native American people face when trying to receive mental health care.
