Led by a first-place finish by Cameron Bowman, the Fernley High School wrestling team placed second at last weekend’s Chester Invitational.
The Vaqueros had five individual placers. Bowman won the 170-pound weight class, A.C. Reyes placed second at 182 pounds, Lonnie’s Lipinski placed fourth in heavyweights, Thomas Chapin placed third in 145 pounds and Jared Caulk placed second at 113 pounds.
“We wrestled very well,” coach Scott Gillespie said. “I was proud of our team’s efforts. Thomas Chapin and Cameron Bowman especially stood out, having their best showings as Fernley High School wrestlers.”
Fernley’s JV wrestlers went to the Hug Takedown Tournament.
Delson Williams, Glenn Braswell, Madison Richardson and Tyler Dennis all placed.
“Most of them are first-year wrestlers and they all did a great job,” Gillespie said.
This week the Vaqueros will compete in the Cody Louk Invitational in Winnemucca, on Friday and Saturday.
“(It) is always a very good, very competitive tournament,” Gillespie said. “We will continue to work on being solid fundamental wrestlers.
