Fernley players improve at second day of State

The three Fernley players improved by a combined 31 strokes on the second day of the NIAA 3A Girls State Golf Championships at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko.

Olivia Victor wound up as the highest finisher among Fernley’s three players, with a two day total of 253. After shooting 125 on Monday, Victor shot 128 in Tuesday’s second round.

Megan Thompson and Jenna Kollar each shaved 17 strokes off their first round scores. Thompson shot 124 on Tuesday to finish with a total of 265 in 41st place, while Kollar shot 133 to finish at 283 in 44th place.

“The girls have set goals for next year already,” Fernley coach Brian O’Neill said. “Results aside, a good tournament. I liked how Megan Thompson and Jenna Kollar bounced back.”

Lani Potter was the individual champion, shooting 76 Tuesday to finish at 147. Annika Criss of Elko was second at 167, shooting 84 on Tuesday. Other medalists were Carolyn Lemon of Western (176), Tatyana Carlson of Lowry (181), Josie Delgadillo of Moapa Valley (186) and Chalee Mullin of Elko (191.

Elko won the team championship with a combined two-day score of 752. Boulder City was second (770), followed by Lowry third (772), Spring Creek (855), SECTA (872) and Pahrump (906).
