Fernley High School is celebrating Homecoming this week with a full schedule of activities all week based on this year’s theme of Carnival, and several fundraisers for this year’s Homecoming Hero, a 4-year old named Lucas Walker who is fighting leukemia.
The week includes dress-up days, gym decorating, human foosball, glow-in-the-dark kickball, the annual lip sync contest on Thursday and a carnival on Friday.
The Homecoming Hero presentation will be made at halftime of Friday’s football game against South Tahoe. This year’s Homecoming Hero is Lucas, who was diagnosed a year ago with leukemia and immediately began chemotherapy. Fundraisers for Lucas include a portion of the proceeds from drinks at Freedom Espresso on Monday, proceeds from a special Lucas Sundae at Steve’s Ice Cream from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, proceeds from the Lucas Special from Wild West Burgers (burger, fries and drink for $11) on Wednesday across from the bowling alley and the $5 cover charge for the lip sync contest on Thursday.
