Fernley girls get 6 on all-league team, Kingston named Coach of the Year

Befitting their dominance of the Northern 3A during the regular season, all five starters and the top reserve were named to the Northern 3A All-League team, while coach Tom Kingston was named the league’s Coach of the Year.

Sophomore Willow Jacobson, seniors Celeste Condie and Jaiden Sullivan, and junior Karli Burns were named to the All-League first team, while senior Katelyn Bunyard and freshman Alizah Lara earned honorable mention.

In addition, Jacobson was named to the 3A All-State first team, while Condie, Sullivan and Burns were named to the second team.

Jacobson was the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 12.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. She also was third on the team with 3.0 steals per game and averaged 1.6 assists per game.

Condie averaged 9.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists and a team-leading 3.8 steals per game.

Sullivan averaged 9.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and led the team with 3.4 assists per game and was second with 3.3 steals per game.

Burns was the second-leading scorer with 10.3 points, second leading rebounder with 5.1, and added 1.7 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

Bunyard posted averages of 7.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 2.4 steals, while Lara pitched in with 3.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.4 steals.

In his first season as head coach, Kingston led the Vaqueros to a 25-3 overall record, 18-0 in the regular season in the Northern 3A, as well as a regional championship and state championship game appearance.
