Fernley girls even league record

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

With their third consecutive win, the Fernley High School girls basketball team evened its league record at 6-6 in the Northern 3A, heading into a key road trip this weekend to Spring Creek and Elko.

The Vaqueros beat Dayton Tuesday night, 60-37 and are tied for fourth place with Spring Creek. They play at 6 p.m. Friday at Spring Creek, then Saturday at 1 p.m. at Elko.

Hailee Edgar lead the team in scoring with 15 and Taylor Richardson chipped in 10 at Dayton.

“Hailee and Taylor have really started to find their shot of late,” coach John Rogers said. “Hailee especially is averaging just under 20 a game the last 3 games.”

The Vaqueros got off to a good start behind a strong defense, leading 11-4 after one quarter and 33-13 at the half.

“Our defense is still our strong side but when the girls are putting the ball in more I like our chances against everyone,” Roger said. “We still had some mistakes but I feel we are starting to play our best basketball at the right time.”

The Vaqueros lost close games at home to both Spring Creek and Elko, and Rogers said the Vaqueros have to continue to work together and do the little things every game to have a chance to win.

“Don’t get me wrong, though,” he said. “We can’t slack off or have major mishaps.”
