By Gary Handzel, For the Fernley Reporter
Get in the Act delivered their Science Theater Program to Fernley Elementary second and third graders in January, 2018.
Science Theater uses the performing arts as a classroom framework so that students can investigate and connect science concepts to their everyday world. Second-graders explored rock and soil concepts while third graders examined force and motion essentials.
Led by Teaching Artist Diane Handzel, students dramatized these science concepts in memorable scenes with their peers, allowing them to learn and retain the science content associated with these scenes.
“The students were 100 percent engaged, which is a key when acquiring new knowledge,” said Mrs. DeGolyer, second grade teacher at Fernley. “Science Theater created an experience that the students will remember.”
On behalf of the students we serve, Get in the Act thanks Change Happens Foundation of Hawaii for sponsoring Science Theater in Fernley.
