The Fernley High school dance team took home several awards and earned a collection of rings at the High Sierra Showdown held Jan. 14 at the Reno Events Center.
The Vaquero dancers won first place division championships for three team routines and won the Judges Choice Award for best dance and the overall high point dance champion, as well as two solo awards and two duet awards.
The Vaqueros won first place division championships for the hip hop routine “Big Deal”, the jazz routine “Juicy” and the Pom routine “Get Ready.” They also won the Judges Choice Award and overall High Point Dance Champion for “Get Ready.”
Soloist Bella Bezinque won Best Contemporary Solo and first place in her division, while soloist Caylee Meeks won Best Jazz Solo and first in her division.
Amaya Nicolas and Olivia Gerbasi won Best Hip Hop Duet and first in their division, and Angelina Valles and Miagicel Pineda Sandoval won Best Jazz Duet and first in their division.
The team is led by head coach and choreographer Laken Boonlua and assistant coach Hailee Allen.
