The Fernley boys and girls basketball teams will each be trying to end three-game losing streaks when they host Sparks Tuesday night.
The girls team lost at Fallon last Tuesday, 43-26, to fall to 7-4 in league play, 12-10 overall. The Vaqueros enter Tuesday’s game one-and-a-half games behind Spring Creek and Lowry, which are tied for second place at 9-3, and a half game ahead of Elko, which is fifth at 7-5.
The Vaqueros struggled to score at Fallon, chalking up half of their 26 points in the fourth quarter, after trailing 36-13.
Hailee Edgar led Fernley with 7 points, and Celeste Condie had six.
The boys team made just 12 of 55 field goal attempts in last Tuesday’s game in Fallon, including three of 19 from 3-point range, and they struggled from the free throw line as well, making just seven of 19 tries in a 55-34 loss.
Russ Ortiz led Fernley with 10 points and Zac Terra scored nine.
Fernley enters Tuesday’s game in fifth place at 6-5 in league play, 11-10 overall.
