Fernley 4th of July to celebrate 240 years of freedom

The Fernley 4th of July committee is putting the finishing touches on the plans for this year’s celebration, with the motto “Celebrating 240 Years of Freedom.”

The event begins with Mason’s pancake breakfast from 7-10 a.m. at the Mason Lodge at 40 West St. The cost is $7 per person for $25 per family and all donations go to fund high school scholarships.

The parade down Main St. starts at 10 a.m., from Locust to 7th St.

Kids games start at noon at the Out of Town Park, included water balloon toss, sack races and more.

The flag raising will be held at 1 p.m., and a horseshoe tournament also starts at 1.

Parade trophies will be awarded at 2 p.m.; the watermelon eating contest starts at 3 p.m. and the raffle starts at 4 p.m. with a new drawing every 15 minutes until prizes are gone, with the grand prize drawing at 6:30 p.m. A greased pig contest starts at 5 p.m., then live music begins at 6, to keep the crowd entertained until the fireworks at dusk.
