Earthquake felt in Fernley

An earthquake measured at magnitude 4.4 centered near Janesville, Calif. rattles Fernley residents Wednesday evening.

According to the University of Nevada Reno Seismological Laboratory, the earthquake struck about 26.5 miles north northeast of Portola at 9:58 p.m.

The quake was felt throughout northwestern Nevada, and sent Fernley residents scurrying to social media sites. It was followed 13 minutes later by a smaller quake measured at 2.6.
