The Lyon County Commission will be asked to pass a resolution at its meeting this Thursday, Sept. 5 to declare a vacancy of the District 5 seat, created by the death of Commissioner Greg Hunewill.
That will begin the process of finding a replacement who will be appointed by Gov. Steve Sisolak.
Under state law, any vacancy occurring in any board of county commissioners must be filled by appointment of the Governor. Except in Carson City, the Governor shall appoint a suitable person who is a member of the same political party as the most recent holder of the vacant office.
The last Lyon County Commissioner to be appointed by the governor was Ray Fierro, who was appointed in 2010 to fill a seat vacated by the resignation of Don Tibbals.
People interested in being appointed must be a registered Republican and must reside in District 5.
People meeting the qualifications must complete an appointment application and waiver for the Governor’s Office. These documents can be found at: http://gov.nv.gov/Board/Application/ and http://gov.nv.gov/uploadedFiles/govnewnvgov/Content/Board/AuthorizationForReleasePersonalInfoWaiver.pdf.
Any questions or letters of recommendations should be sent to boards@gov.nv.gov.
