Clement to speak to Fernley Republican Women Sept. 16

The Fernley Republican Women (FRW) will hold its next meeting at the Fernley High School library on Sept. 16. A light meal will be served at 6 p.m. and the meeting will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Melissa Clement, executive director of Nevada Right to Life. The public is always invited to attend.

Clement will update the group on issues affecting the unborn, medically marginalized and elderly. Topics will include the 2021 legislative update, Protect Our Girls Initiative, SJR8/ERA Constitutional Amendment on the 2022 ballot, Texas Heartbeat Law, and Goals and Projects for 2022. Clement is a graduate of Reno High School and holds a BS in Marketing and a MA in Political Science from the University of Nevada. She represents Nevada on the board of directors of the National Right to Life Committee.

The FRW’s Caring for America/Adopt-a-Soldier Program collects non-perishable foods for the Fernley Food Bank, along with donations of funds and care items for their adopted soldiers. The soldiers need single serving food items, personal care items and, most especially, cards and letters from home. The Literacy Committee collects new or slightly used children’s books for Bow Wow Books, an organization that teamed up with the Fernley library. Bow Wow Reading Dogs are non-judgmental certified therapy dogs who listen to children reading aloud. The dog’s handler has been educated on how to help readers learn to read. All contributions for these important programs will be greatly appreciated. Financial contributions can be sent to the FRW at P. O.
