The City of Fernley held a groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 30 to mark the beginning of construction of an all-abilities playground at Green Valley Park.

The all-abilities playground will feature enhanced playground equipment for people of all abilities, and will have a soft rubber tile surface that is ADA accessible. The play area will be about 1,600 square feet with four to five pieces of play equipment for all sensory types.

The project was first requested by the council during the 2022/23 budget process, then on March 1, the council approved a maximum of $200,000 for the engineering, design and construction of the playground. In May, the council approved a contract with CFA, Inc. for construction of the project.
