Bernardo’s second place finish leads Fernley at State track meet

A second place finish by Nicholas Bernardo in the 110-meter hurdles highlighted the Fernley track team’s performance at the NIAA State Track and Field Championships at Carson High School.
Bernardo finished second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.79, and his personal record run of 42.5 in the 300 hurdles placed him fifth, accounting for 12 team points.
Ricky Dumont’s sixth place in the discus, with a throw of 130-02, added three points, as the boys team finished 15th with 15 team points.
Mojave won the team championship with 110 points, while Desert Pines was second with 100 points. Fallon was the top Northern team, finishing fourth with 59.5 points.
The girls team tied for 14th with 23 points. Lowry was the champion with 72 points and Truckee came in second with 63.
The girls 4×800 relay team of Janae Derley, Olivia Schrock, Samantha Manning, Piper Crook posted the highest finish among Fernley’s qualifiers, taking third with a time of 10:03.06.
Individually, Brittney Gaitan finished fourth in the discus, with a personal record throw of 116-9, and she was sixth in the shot put, at 33-0.25.
Piper Crook finished fourth in the 800 meters with a personal record time of 2:22.22, and Riana Allred finished fifth in the 100 hurdles with her personal record of 16.46.
