Big R and ARGONN Helping Lyon County cats

Joseph Maino, The Fernley Reporter

The Animal Rescue Group of Northern Nevada held an adoption and education event Sunday morning at Big R in Fernley.

ARGONN president Vanessa Stuart said “There were no facilities in Lyon County for feral cats. We had to do something.” Consequently, Fernley residents founded ARGONN in 2010. The organization currently has over 30 very active members. It’s primary mission is to trap, neuter and return (TNR) feral cats in Fernley, Wadsworth, Silver Springs and Lovelock. In addition to its primary mission, the organization provides cat fostering services and  distributes cat food to needy families.

Stuart points with pride to her homemade feral cat house and says, “This home for feral cats is easy to make from a plastic container, straw and a styrofoam NutriSystem box. The great thing is it only costs $17 and can house more than one cat. Almost everyone should be able to make one of these for their neighborhood cats, especially now that winter is coming.”

ARGONN members meet the second Saturday of every month. The next meeting is scheduled for October 22 at 10:30 a.m. in the meeting building next to the Fernley Free Methodist Church, 100 West St.

ARGONN is a non-profit 501(c)3. Additional information: argonn.org  ARGONN hotline at 775-229-3708.
