New WNC Business degree designed for university transfer
Western Nevada College students can be all business when they start the 2016 fall semester of classes on Monday, Aug. 29.
For the first time, WNC will offer an Associate of Business Degree that is built for students to earn a two-year Associate Degree in Business and then transfer directly to a university, toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.
At a tuition cost that is far below that of a university, WNC students will save money and learn in smaller classes with a personalized approach, before they transition to a university.

WNC already offers a two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business with an emphasis in Accounting, General Business or Management. It is ideal for those students who wish to enter the workforce sooner, according to WNC Professor of Accounting Richard Kloes.
“WNC is pleased to offer this new university transfer track for our Business students,” said Dr. Robert Wynegar, Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. “The impetus for this track came from our Business Advisory Committee. Completing the steps required to offer the Associate of Business Degree demonstrates our continued commitment to serving regional business needs and supporting our students. For Business students pursuing a four-year degree, this track will offer a smoother transition to the university level.”
An added benefit to the program is that most of the classes are available online and in person, giving the working student more flexibility in their busy schedules.
Kloes said that students who complete the 60-unit Associate of Business Degree can continue their education in business with a junior standing at a four-year college, including the University of Nevada, Reno.
“Unlike the Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, which are more general in nature, this degree is specifically designed with the business student in mind.” Kloes said.
“Whether they transfer with their Associate of Business Degree or enter the workforce immediately, students can expect a better chance of employment upon graduation.
“Those earning business degrees are some of the most sought-after graduates today,” Kloes said. “The great thing about this degree is that, as well as directly transferring to a four-year institution, it also tells a prospective employer that the student’s main emphasis of study is in the business field.”
