Citizens Leadership Academy of Fernley to begin in January

The annual Fernley Citizens Leadership Academy will begin on Jan. 11, 2018.

The Citizens Academy is a seven-week free workshop where residents can learn about the City of Fernley government structure, City departments, and programs and services provided by the City of Fernley. In addition, residents can meet with elected officials and City staff.

The workshops will be held in Council Chambers at City Hall on Thursday evenings from 6–8 p.m. throughout the months of January and February. Each week will feature a different City department, including the following departments: City Manager’s Office; City Attorney’s Office; Fernley Municipal Court; Finance Department; City Clerk’s Office; Public Works Department; Engineering Department; Building Department; and Planning Department.

This year’s academy dates are as follows:

  • January 11
  • January 18
  • January 25
  • February 1
  • February 8
  • February 15
  • February 22

Last year’s inaugural program was a huge success. Originally the City planned to allow for 25 attendees, however, there was an increased demand and 40 participants registered for the academy. The City graduated 28 participants who successfully completed and attended each of the workshops.

“The Citizens Academy was a great success,” City Manager Daphne Hooper said. “Residents gained first-hand knowledge of the services the City provides, along with the challenges we face. Participants were able to connect and build relationships with staff, which we hope will foster better trust and communication in the future.”

Space is once again limited this year, sign up early to secure your registration. To register, please contact Phoebe Bender at pbender@cityofernley.org or call (775) 784-9858.

The Citizens Leadership Academy of Fernley is sponsored by the Fernley Chamber of Commerce and the City of Fernley.
