Fernley volleyball off to unbeaten start in league play

Starting with a win on Sept. 6 over the defending 3A state champions, the Fernley High School volleyball team has gotten off to a 3-0 start in the Northern 3A, heading into a match Wednesday night at Lowry.

The Vaqueros won at Truckee last Wednesday to start league play, 16-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 15-11.

Friday, the Vaqueros came back from two sets down to beat Elko, 22-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-22, 15-7.

After those two dramatic wins, the Vaqueros had a much easier time Saturday against Spring Creek, winning 25-7, 25-14, 25-7.

The Vaqueros started the season by winning the Silver Bracket at the Yerington Tournament. Fernley was placed in the Silver bracket after opening with losses to McQueen and Galena, but then went on to beat Elko, Spring Creek, Bishop (Calif.) and Etna (Calif.).

Fernley also defeated Lovelock on Aug. 30 to finish nonleague play, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-9.
