Vaquero wrestlers win Redwood Rumble, go 3-2 at Wilkins Invitational

The Fernley High School wrestling team followed up a tournament championship in the opening week by going 3-2 in duals last week at the Wilkens Invitational in Fallon.

The Vaqueros opened the season by winning the championship of the Redwood Rumble in Redwood City, Calif. Returning 3A state runner-up Nathan Pritchard and third-place finisher Harley Denison both won their weight classes. C.J. Finley and fourth-place state placer Marciano Montano both placed second, while state runner-up Camron McMackin, third place state finisher Riley McCullar and Keeshawn Love all placed third. Nick McCoy was Fernley’s other medalist with a fourth-place finish.

While the varsity squad was collecting hardware in California, the JV competed in the Hug Tournament, where Sophie Workman, Tina Garcia and Ruby Reece each placed first, Landon Bozarth and Kaden Allen finished second, Ivan Arias and April Mendoza both placed third and Demery Aldredge had a fourth-place finish.
