Sierra Arts Foundation is inviting applications for local artists to participate in the inaugural Fernley Murals, Music and Margarita Festival scheduled for May 19-21, 2022. To be considered, artists must submit three to five digital images, a resume, biography, and exhibition list, which can include murals and galleries. Submissions must be received by Tuesday, November 30.
The Festival is hoping to showcase diverse artistic talent within the region in an engaging, outdoor event. The planning stages for the event were started prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequently delayed as mitigation measures were put in place. With the circulation of COVID-19 vaccines and effective mitigation tactics, planning for the first iteration of the Festival is moving forward. Sierra Arts Foundation is contributing an estimated $18,000 toward compensating those artists who are participating, paired with a $30,000 contribution from the City of Fernley.
Artists will have the creative freedom to paint a pre-approved mural during the festival, with compensation varying depending on the wall assigned, Sierra Arts Foundation is interested in showcasing a variety of styles, backgrounds and artist stories. Primary considerations when reviewing applications include skill, execution, experience, timeliness, capability, style, diversity, individuality and context.
Artist applications are due Nov. 30, 2021 by 5 p.m. to Brooks@Sierra-Arts.org, and applicants will be notified of their selection by Dec. 30, 2021.
