Kael Paz placed eighth in the boys race and Myla Bott was 14th in the girls to pace the seven-runner contingent from Fernley at the 3A State Cross Country Championships on Nov. 5 in Boulder City
With their performances, both Paz and Bott earned a spot on the 3A All-State second team. Placing first through seventh in the State meet earned first team all-state, while 8-14 earned second.
All seven of Fernley’s runners ran a faster time at the State than they did the previous week in the Regional meet in Sparks.
For the boys, Paz ran a time of 17:00.5, just 4.5 seconds behind the seventh place finisher. Levi Patterson placed 40th with a time of 18:49.5, and Michael Fitzgerald finished 47th in a time of 19:16.5.
For the girls, Bott’s time of 21:32.9 was a 10th of a second behind the runner ahead of her. Laila Kinnick finished 33rd with a time of 22:52.6, Brooklyn Harvey came in 37th with a time of 23:23.9 and Trinity Garcia-Anders was 48th with a time of 24:56.7.
