The Fernley High School football team began Spring practice Monday morning, kicking off its offseason program.
The Vaqueros will practice from 8-9:15 a.m. each morning through Thursday, concentrating mostly on play review and new ideas.
After taking a couple days off, the Vaqueros will then host the Eastern Oregon University team camp June 11-14. The cost is $110 per player.
Last year’s camp included Yerington and Lovelock, but coach Chris Ward said this year Dayton and Lowry will be participating as well.
The camp is instructed by Eastern Oregon head coach Tim Camp and his staff, and includes periods for teams to work with their own coaches, as well as scrimmage time.
The Vaqueros will host four weeks of summer conditioning, meeting from 8-10 a.m. Summer conditioning will begin June 26 and continue the weeks of July 10, July 17 and July 24, with makeup days on July 31 and Aug. 1.
A mandatory team meeting will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Aug. 1. Equipment will be checked out Aug. 2, and four days of heat acclimation practices will be held Aug 2-5.
Noncontact practices will be held Aug. 7-9, with contact practices Aug. 10-12.
Ward is planning to schedule a scrimmage Aug. 18 or 19, and the team will play its first game of the season Aug. 25 or 26, with the opponent and location still being finalized.
Students return to school Aug. 31, and on Sept. 1, the Vaqueros will play their first league game of the season against Fallon.
