Fernley FFA livestock evaluation team competes at National convention

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

Eight members of the Fernley chapter of the FFA attended the National FFA Convention and Expo last week, bringing home three awards.

Fernley FFA’s livestock evaluation team had the opportunity to compete on the national level against one team from every state including Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Guam, and did fairly well with two members placing in the silver category (Paisley Rosenlund and George Rosenlund) and two members placing in the bronze category (Illiana Banks and Madilynn Lynch). As a team, Fernley placed in the Silver category.

The convention, in Indianapolis, gave the students the chance to learn about agricultural education, ag literacy, and how to ag-vocate (advocate) for the industry.

In addition, Emma Parsons (an FHS alumni) received her American FFA degree. The American FFA degree is the highest degree one can earn through the FFA, only 1% of all FFA members receive it.
