The Fernley High School girls golf team placed fourth in the first two meets of the season last week in Elko and Spring Creek.
Jenna Kollar shot 106 in Elko and 107 in Spring Creek to earn all-league points both days by finishing in the top 10, and the Vaqueros significantly cut the gap between third and fourth place in Thursday’s second meet at Spring Creek.
The Northern 3A changed its schedule to include meets on consecutive days several times during the season to simulate the experience of playing at the State Meet.
At Elko, the Vaqueros posted a team score of 468. Elko won the meet with 359 team strokes, followed by Lowry at 418 and Spring Creek at 421.
Individually, Kollar shot 106, McKenna Montgomery shot 115, Hailee Edgar carded 118 and Maya Fisher finished at 129.
The next day, Fernley cut its team score to 450. Elko again won with a team score of 378, Spring Creek was second at 424 and Lowry was third at 432.
Kollar shot 107, Edgar scored 109, Olivia Victor shot 112, Montgomery finished with 122 and Fisher shot 124. Only the lowest four scores count for the team total.
The Northern 3A was scheduled to play twice again this week, at South Tahoe Monday and Truckee Tuesday.
