Show your “LOVE” with a Fernley ACES Board Project
By Dana Uhlhorn
As you read this, we are past the holidays. Christmas and New Year’s Eve are behind us. Thanksgiving is a distant memory, and with the exception of Walmart (which is already gearing up for Easter and Valentine’s Day), the rest of us want to know what’s next.
Well, of course, we are all going to jump right into our New Year’s resolutions, right? So later this afternoon, when that wears off, think about this: The Fernley ACES (Art and Culture Event Squad) is putting on another board project!
We have held these several times in the past, and they are always fun. The ACES will sell you a board (approximately 11 inches square) that you can use to produce your interpretation of our theme. Previous themes have been things like “GROWTH,” “VISION,” and “REVOLUTION.” This year, the theme is “LOVE,” and we will start selling boards now.
You can pick up your boards from 1st Option Realty (40 N. Center St.) or the Chamber of Commerce (70 N. West St.), both in Fernley. Once you have your board, you can produce whatever type of art you would like on it. There have been sculptures, decoupage, interactive art, and, of course, paintings done on boards in the past. Really let your imagination go wild and explore the possibilities.
We will collect all the boards on or before Feb. 10, then have a grand show with all of them on Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. at 1st Option Realty, 40 N. Center St. This will be a fun event to kick off Valentine’s Day, featuring creative desserts by a local professional and sparkling cider drinks to toast with. There will be awards for people’s choice in a few different categories.
I really look forward to this event and hope that you will join us. If you would like some inspiration, you can check out the gallery of previous events on our website, www.FernleyACES.net. I look forward to seeing you all at the “LOVE”-themed event on Feb. 13
