North Lyon firefighters stopped from responding to Wadsworth fire

North Lyon County Fire Protection District firefighters were met by people with weapons and prevented from responding to a fire at a home in Wadsworth late Thursday night.
Fire Chief Scott Huntley said the firefighters who had been at the scene of the shooting at MSC Industrial Direct, Inc. in Fernley responded to the fire on Railroad Circle in Wadsworth.
Huntley and a crew of North Lyon County firefighters were the first responders to the scene, but Huntley said they were met out front by people with weapons.
“They gestured that we weren’t wanted,” Huntley said.
Huntley and the North Lyon crew pulled back to a safe location and requested assistance from law enforcement to secure the scene. Firefighters from Storey County and Truckee Meadows Fire arrived and also staged until law enforcement officers deemed the scene safe for them to enter.
Because the fire was within the Truckee Meadows Fire jurisdiction, Huntley transferred command to the Truckee Meadows crew and the North Lyon left the scene.
Huntley said one person was taken into custody. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office referred calls on the incident to the Pyramid Lake Tribal Police, but Tribal Police Chief Christopher Parsons was not available for comment.
