Lyon County Communications Center reminder

Message from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office

Beginning Sunday Jan. 8 evening through Wednesday Jan. 11, the Sierra Nevada Mountains will experience with two significant winter storms, intermixed with snow, ice, and rain. This weather event will cause flooding throughout Northern Nevada, including Lyon County.

Lyon County will have paid staff, deputies, and trained volunteers routinely conducting countywide checks for flooding events, which includes flash floods, standing water from plugged drains, and river flooding problems. Of concern is Lyon County’s Communication Center will become overloaded with citizens calling its non-emergency line to report known flooding areas and we need that line open for emergency requests.

We are asking citizens to use our non-emergency line during this time period to report only those flood issues where the safety of citizens is involved. Our non-emergency number is 775-463-6620.

If there is a threat to life or serious injury without an immediate response, please call 911.

The Lyon County Emergency Operation Center will establish a separate number for citizens to report non-emergency flooding. That number will be published at a later time.
