Fernley runners to compete in regional meet Friday

The Fernley High School cross country teams will compete in the Northern 3A regional meet this Friday at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno.
The meet which includes classes 4A, 4A and 1A.2A, begins at 10 a.m. The 3A girls are scheduled to run at 11:10 a.m., followed by the girls awards ceremony at 11:45 a.m.
The 3A boys are the last race of the day, at 1:15 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony at 1:45 p.m.
On Oct. 5, the Vaqueros ran at the Lowry Invitational, where the girls team finished third out of four teams. Spring Creek, which won the meet, had six of the top nine runners.
Fernley’s top finisher, Piper Crook, came in 10th place with a time of 20:42, followed by Janae Derley in 11th place in 20:50. Paitin Smith finished 18th in 23:06, Samantha Manning was 11th in 24:13, Nevaeh Ledesma finished 28th in 27:05 and Chanel Patrick was 29th in 27:32.
The boys team had just two runners competing in the varsity race. Antonio Rodarte finished in 21st place in 18:33 and Liam Maldonado was 39th in 20:12.
Results of last week’s North Valley Chase Race were not available.
