City, County each approve settlement agreement in Redevelopment lawsuit

The Fernley City Council and Lyon County Commission each approved the proposed settlement agreement in the county’s lawsuit against the city filed in June 2019 aiming to stop the city’s redevelopment process.
The county filed the suit after the city created a Redevelopment Agency, challenging he validity of the Redevelopment plan under NRS Chapter 279. The Lyon County School District later joined the lawsuit.
The parties went to mediation, and ultimately agreed that the city would withdraw the redevelopment agency. The county agreed to pay the City $90,000 to defray the costs of consultants hired by the city during the creation of the redevelopment agency. The agreement also states that if the city again attempts to set up a redevelopment agency, it will involve Lyon County and the School District. In the agenda report for last week’s Council meeting, City Manager Daphne Hooper wrote that the $90,000 will be used in part to work toward creating a revised redevelopment plan.
