Although it’s still to be determined what the new district boundaries will be, Nevada Assemblyman Jim Wheeler announced Friday that he is running for the State Senate seat currently held by James Settelmeyer, who has reached his term limit and cannot run again.
Wheeler has served for 10 years as the Assembly representative in District 39, which covers Douglas, Storey and part of Lyon County.
Settelmeyer represents Senate District 17, which currently includes Churchill, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties. The interim legislature committee working on the first stages of redistricting met Oct. 7 to begin the process of determining new boundaries for Nevada’s four congressional districts, 63 legislative districts, and Board of Regents districts.
“One thing we are currently waiting on, but should know soon, is what this new district will look like,” Wheeler said.
Wheeler earned the third highest legislative rating (97.79 percent) from the Nevada Policy Research Institute this year, the most prominent conservative policy group in Nevada.
