Vaqueros beat The Meadows in opener

The Fernley boys basketball team beat The Meadows 65-56 Thursday night at the Lake Mead Holiday Classic to begin its season.

Drake Howe scored 18 points to lead the Vaqueros, and Zach Burns added 15 in the win over the defending 2A state champions. Jake Epstein had 22 points for the Meadows.

The Vaqueros play Boulder City Friday at 11 a.m. Boulder City beat Spring Creek 53-41 in its opening game.
