Lyon County Emergency Management is requesting citizens that do not have to be on the road today and those that can’t leave due to water or mud to please shelter in place.
If you must drive today, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is asking drivers to exercise extreme caution and to heed the safety and closed road signs that have been put in place on some of our roads. This is for your safety and the safety of others.
All Lyon County schools have been closed today due to flooding and icy conditions. 95A at Sage is closed at this time.
Update from LCDS Superintendent Wayne Workman: All LCSD schools will continue as planned Tuesday. No delays or closures anticipated at the moment. Big thank you to all the staff members that worked hard to get everything ready for our return!
Lyon County is still actively engaged in flood operations. Road crews continue to focus their efforts on clearing drainage’s and repairing roads that are not under water. It will be several days before all roads are fully operational. There have been a number of social media posts requesting assistance from the County. County personnel are not monitoring the numerous social media sites and anyone that has a life-threatening emergency is asked to call 911. If you are unable to get out of your property but have no life-threatening emergency please call our non-emergency number (775) 463-6620.
Roads are being repaired as quickly as possible. Road crews are also preparing for snow removal that is being forecasted to begin tonight. County Manager Jeff Page and the Board of County Commissioners commend the affected public for their patience and working with our responders.
During the current flood alert, and if you are in the Pyramid Lake Reservation area, you are asked to refrain from crossing the river on the bridge in Wadsworth.
If you are in need of temporary shelter, you may proceed to Natchez Elementary School in Wadsworth for shelter.
Update from the City of Fernley at 11:16 a.m.: 95A is open. Sage Drive is open to limited residential traffic. The City continues to monitor areas throughout the City and are pumping in areas of concern. We will continue to assess the damage and watch the weather as it progresses. NDF has their crew filling sandbags at the Out of Town Park. Southwest Gas is monitoring the gas line at the Southwest Meadows Subdivision.
Update from Lyon County: The the power is out in west Fernley impacting 3,000 homes. Power is expected to be restored around 12:30 am.
Update from Lyon County: Traffic on U.S. 95A between Fernley and Silver Springs is now open to controlled single lane traffic.
Update from the City of Fernley: Summer Winds has been re-opened and there are several power outages throughout Fernley. More information will be provided as received.
Fernley City Manager Daphne Hooper said the city just got notice that the power is out in the Sage Valley, Southwest Meadows, south of the High School and the western part of Fernley including the Miller Lane and Truckee Lane areas.
From the City of Fernley: Update as of 9:30 p.m.
Residents who live south of the canal along 95A, including Sage Valley, Southwest Meadows Subdivision, and all other homes near the Fernley High School, we are requesting that you please stay home at this time. 95A will be closed from Silver Springs to Fernley. There are additional road closures within the City at this time, they include Hardie Lane and Summer Winds.
City staff is constantly monitoring the storm drains throughout the City, we ask that you please be alert for flashing lights and staff working in these hazardous conditions. Stay off the roads if you can.
TCID (Truckee Carson Irrigation District) is constantly monitoring the canal, including erosion, all electronic monitoring stations are up and functioning at all 14 sites.

USA Parkway closed by NDOT at Electric Ave. and Denmark Dr. due to gravel on road. Detour routes are available for access to the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center.
Lyon County schools will be closed Monday, Jan. 9 because of flooding around the county, a district spokesperson said.
