After sweeping both matches in the challenging eastern road trip, the Fernley High School volleyball team will take a six-game winning streak into Tuesday’s Northern 3A season finale against South Tahoe.
The Vaqueros won at Spring Creek in five sets Friday, then beat Elko in four Saturday to run their record to continue their second half surge and run their league record to 12-5. Fernley sits in fourth place, a game behind Elko, and will be either the third or fourth seed for the regional tournament, which will be played Nov. 2-3 in Elko.
To move into a tie for third, the Vaqueros must win Tuesday at South Tahoe, and have Elko lose its last league game to Spring Creek. Elko is currently third in the league at 13-4 while Spring Creek is sixth at 7-10 and is battling with Fallon for the last playoff spot. South Tahoe is second at 13-2, while Truckee leads the league at 16-0.
Individual set scores at Spring Creek weren’t reported.
At Elko, the Vaqueros won the final two sets after losing a tight second set to take the victory, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 25-17.
The Vaqueros end the regular season with a nonleague game against Yerington Oct. 30.
