The Vaqueros went 2-1 over the past week to earn their way into the region tournament. On Oct. 18 they beat Dayton in four sets, 25-14, 25-23, 21-25, 25-23.

“Fernley played some of the best volleyball I’ve seen all season,” coach Zach Wilhelm said. “It feel like we have finally hit our groove.”

Last Friday, the Vaqueros lost in five sets to Fallon, which finished No. 1 in the East, 25-19, 24-26, 25-23, 14-25, 10-15. Then they bounced back Saturday to beat Lowry in three straight, 25-11, 25-22, 25-23.

“In these two matches our team worked very hard and came together to play the best volleyball we have seen all season,” Wilhelm said. “With the narrow loss to Fallon we showed ourselves we have what it takes to go toe to toe with a No. 1 seed and we’re ready to take on Truckee.”
