Each September, the Fernley Republican Women participate in the National Federation of Republican Women’s Literacy Month by sponsoring literacy projects.
On Sept. 17, Literacy Chair Peggy Gray and Carol Franich presented a dictionary to each third grade student at Cottonwood Elementary School. Accompanied by school staff, they talked about literacy in three of the five classrooms. The faces of the children lit up as each received a personal copy of “The Best Dictionary for Students.”
The FRW members also presented books to Ms. Anderson, the school librarian, for the school library. The books donated were Rush Limbaugh’s 5-book RUSH REVERE series: Rush Revere and the…Brave Pilgrims/First Patriots/Star-Spangled Banner/American Revolution and Presidency.
Later in the month, new children’s’ books will be donated to Bow Wow Books, a program at the Fernley Library, which gives children in the community the opportunity to improve their reading skills by reading to a certified therapy dog and they get to take a book home to keep once a month.
Fernley Republican Women is a group of women (and men as associate members) who share similar conservative values and ideals, and who are dedicated to increasing the influence and effectiveness of women in the cause of good government through political education and active political participation.
