Six people and three dogs lost their home to a fire Tuesday afternoon to a fire/
North Lyon County Fire Protection District Chief Scott Huntley said firefighters were paged to a reported structure fire at 1331 Relief Springs Road.
Within minutes of their arrival, the fire had fully consumed the garage and vented into the second floor. Gas was running down the road from the truck involved in the driveway.
A total of 26 firefighters responded. Three engines, a truck and command from NLCFPD as well as the district’s rehab team responded. Aid was provided from Storey County, Pyramid Fire Rescue, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, Fallon Fire and Reno and REMSA assisted with medical. Huntley said due to other Northern Nevada emergencies, Reno Fire was used.
Six occupants we’re displaced and Red Cross was requested for them. Three dogs were also displaced.
Huntley said one dog was misreported as being a fatality, but was later found.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation and appears accidental. Huntley said a cigarette is strongly suspected as cause in the garage.
