Roy Edgington will face three challengers in his bid for a third term as mayor, while incumbent City Councilmen Ray Lacy and Stan Lau also face challengers in their reelection bids.

The two-week candidate filing period ended Friday, with a total of 11 candidates for the three open city offices. There are also contested races for the Lyon County Commission and school board seats representing Fernley.

In the race for mayor, Edgington faces a challenge from Chris Ward, Neal McIntyre and Dan McCassie.

In Ward I, incumbent City Councilman Ray Lacy will face Ryan Hanan, while in Ward 3, incumbent Stan Lau is opposed by James Porter, Tim Bickerton, Joe Rausch and Sara Thomas.

In the County Commission District 2, which represents Silver Springs and part of Fernley, Scott Keller of Silver Springs is running against David Stix, Jr. of Fernley. That seat is currently held by Vida Keller, who is running for the Assembly District 38, against Churchill County Commissioner Greg Koenig. Current Assembly District 38 representative Robin Titus is running for the State Senate District 17 seat against Jim Wheeler, the current Assembly District 39 representative.

In the other County Commission seat up for election this year, incumbent David Hockaday of Smith Valley is unopposed.

The Sheriff’s race is already a hot one on social media, and pits incumbent Sheriff Frank Hunewill against LCSO Sgt. Brad Pope.

There are four seats up for election this year on the Lyon County School District Board of Trustees, two of them which represent Fernley. In District 2, Darin Farr is unopposed. That seat is currently held by McIntyre, who can’t run again because of term limits. In District 7, the new district created this year because of population changes, Mike Hogan will face Neal McIntyre II. They were the only two applicants to fill the seat when it was vacated by the resignation of Kimber Crabtree and the new district was created. At that time, the Trustees voted to appoint Hogan to the seat, but that appointment only last until the end of this year.

In District 4, incumbent Barbara Jones is being challenged by Tom Hendrix., while in District 6, incumbent Bridget Peterson is unopposed.

One seat is open on the North Lyon County Fire Protection District Board of Directors, but incumbent Mike Callagy is unopposed and will keep his seat.

There are three candidates for the Fernley Swimming Pool District Board of Directors, Suzanne Prouty, Patricia Smith and Michael Music, Jr.

In other countywide offices, Troy Villines is unopposed in his bid as Assessor; four candidates are running for clerk-treasurer, Staci Lindberg, Erin Lopez Elaine St. John and Lisa Glass. Incumbent District attorney Steve Rye is being challenged by Troy Jordan, while Lori Ann Harrington, Christine Smith and Anita Talbot are running for recorder.

Congressman Mark Amodei, whose District 2 seat includes Fernley, is one of 13 candidates for that seat.

The Primary Election will be held on June 14 with Early Voting beginning Saturday, May 28, and running through Friday, June 10. The General Election will be on November 8.

  • We the people who live in Lyon County need to involved in our local government. Fernley prematurely became a City with a farmer not a leader in charge. He wanted to be the first mayor and he was!! Review the accomplishments of every person Mayor, Council etc. Then do the same for the people who are stepping g forward to rub. Then decide! Change is needed!!
