The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is assisting Churchill County to notify residents to evacuate the Duffy Road area, northeast of Fernley because of the Truckee Fire, which has spread east of Wadsworth.
The fire was first reported between Nixon and Wadsworth around 6 a.m. and had already burned 1,000 acres by 9 a.m.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s office said the fire is not a threat to Fernley. The smoke, however, is causing limited visibility along Interstate 80 in the Duffy Road area, and Interstate 80 between Patrick and Wadsworth was closed after 5 p.m. because of limited visibility due to smoke.
A second fire burning alongside Interstate 80 near Mustang cause the closure of the Interstate between Mustang and Derby Dam
With the growing number of fires around currently active in Churchill, Douglas, and Washoe Counties, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is asking everyone to please use extreme caution with your 4th of July activities.
