City says 2017 Mayor’s Clean Sweep “A Fabulous Success”

From the City of Fernley

The Eighth Annual Mayor’s Clean Sweep was held on Saturday, April 29. Fernley residents, community organizations, and local businesses volunteered to clean city landscapes of weeds and trash. The City Department of Building and Safety coordinated the successful event.

A total of 107 volunteers plus 13 City staff collected weeds, debris, and trash filling two (2) 40-yard waste dumpsters. Volunteers cleaned the roadside area to the southwest of the roundabout at Farm District and Highway 50 and the east roadside area of Farm District near the Jenny’s Lane intersection; 18 loads of weeds and dead Juniper were hauled to the dumpster from that location alone.

Stericycle collected over 15,000 pounds of hazardous waste and electronic equipment. Cars lined up to dispose of TV’s, microwaves, computer monitors, oil and cleaners. Additional Stericycle staff helped collecting the hazardous materials.
